Continuing Legal Education
The New Orleans Chapter of the Federal Bar Association proudly offers FREE CLE to its members! Aside from the Malcolm Monroe Federal Practice Seminar, all other CLEs will be free of charge. You can easily fulfill your annual MCLE requirements through our programming, and that is without factoring in the additional free CLEs offered by the national FBA. The Chapter typically offers over 25 hours of CLE annually, a mixture of marquee programs that are highly anticipated each year and topical programs focused on recent developments in the law.
Below is information on three of our signature CLE series, but you can find all upcoming CLE on Our Programs page.

Annual Judge Alvin B. Rubin Symposium
In 2022 we were honored to celebrate the 30th anniversary of our ethics and professionalism program, a living memorial to Judge Alvin B. Rubin’s contribution to federal jurisprudence and legal scholarship. The two-hour CLE includes one hour of ethics and one hour of professionalism. Typically held every spring, this CLE program was established in 1993.

Seminar CLE & Swearing In
Malcolm Monroe Federal Practice Seminar CLE & Swearing In
This program is geared toward younger lawyers and is offered annually in early December. Registration typically opens in October. Attendance at the Malcolm W. Monroe Seminar provides four hours of CLE, including one hour each of ethics, professionalism, and law practice management. Registration includes membership in the largest Chapter of the Federal Bar Association, an organization dedicated to improving the quality of practice in federal courts and facilitating interaction and communications between the bar and the judiciary.
As an added bonus, the seminar culminates with a ceremony at which attendees can be sworn into all federal courts in Louisiana, including the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. (Deadline for court admissions is typically in early November.)
Following the ceremony, the Younger Lawyers Division of the New Orleans Chapter of the Federal Bar Association hosts its Annual Holiday Cocktail Party in the Great Hall of the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Malcolm W. Monroe was president of both the national Federal Bar Association and the New Orleans Chapter and a leader in the New Orleans legal community. It is in his honor that we present this seminar each year.
