  • The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and Foundation, Inc. 1205 N. Rampart Street New Orleans, LA 70116 USA (map)

This CLE has been approved for 9 CLE Credit Hours (1 Ethics, 1 Professionalism, 7 Regular CLE credits).

The Civil Rights Etouffee is a biennial (every other year) CLE focusing on the intersection of civil rights and other areas of law such as housing, education, immigration, Indian Law, police and more. The objective of the Civil Rights Etouffee is to create a dynamic CLE for civil rights practitioners – on both sides of the V - who have been litigating these cases for decades as well as for those just starting out their career. In 2023, we will add in a nuts and bolts, 1983 boot camp. On February 2, 2023, there will be a CLE consisting of 3 panels (a ½ day CLE) - the 1983 boot camp will be for new lawyers to understand the basics of a § 1983 lawsuit, who can be sued, how to avoid (or win) on a motion to dismiss, and what to expect when dealing with civil rights clients. The full CLE day of February 3, 2023, will once again range in topics across the spectrum of civil rights. The panelists are among the most well respected and experienced civil rights practitioners and law professors. The Civil Rights Etouffee strives to be the pre-eminent civil rights CLE facilitating the expansion of civil rights knowledge for all attorneys.
